TRANS SIBERIAN RAILWAY
The Trans-Siberian Railway (Transsib), the Great Siberian Way (historical name) — is a railway through Eurasia, connecting Moscow with the largest East Siberian and Far Eastern industrial cities of Russia. The length of the highway is 9288.2 km, it is the longest railway in the world.
The Railway united the vast territories of Russia, accelerated the development and modernization of Siberia, and became a lifesaver for the country during the Second World War.
The first impetus for the construction of the Railway was given by the Emperor of the Russian Empire Alexander III in 1886. The construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway started in 1891 and was carried out in harsh climatic conditions. Almost the entire length of the route was laid in an impassable taiga. It crossed the mighty Siberian rivers, lakes, areas of high waterlogging and permafrost.
